Babar and Father Christmas (Babar Books (Random House)) - Jean De Brunhoff Ever since I took Russian in middle school I have had a hard time reading cursive. My teacher taught the language primarily in cursive, so let's just say things get confusing when I'm reading and I think a w sounds like sh or b sounds like v. Anyway, my copy is in cursive, which is fine because cursive is rather pretty. On page 21 I stumbled upon this passage, and it goes:

"You book is very difficult to read. It is written in old style gothic letters."
Oh, Professor Willam Jones, I feel your pain. I'm confused on why there are two completely different picture of the professor, or maybe it's the professors assistant, I guess I'll never know.
Also, I googled PRJMNESWE, and there was nothing, I mean absolutely nothing about PJMNESWE. I think my suggestion was "primrose". Is google playing a trick on me? Is there some hidden meaning? I guess I should read the other reviews of this before I start to go crazy with anagrams.

Okay, I'm done ranting now. Let's get to the real reviewing. This was really a fun little romp, full of mountain dwarfs (not elves...okay, I said I'm done ranting and I mean it), a dog named duck, and an artist model nicknamed Father Christmas. Oh, and elephants, lots of elephants.

The end of this little gem reminded me of the Raymond Briggs' "Father Christmas Goes on Holiday", which was kind of nice in a way. I really would have given this book a five star rating if it wasn't for the exasperating cursive. I mean really, there's a flying elephant on the cover dressed up as Santa, what else does one need to know?
